Ode to the Father is a retrospective of Maria Pureza Escaño’s paintings spanning the years 2002 – 2010. Done in her signature figurative and surreal style, the collection is the artist’s reflection of her search, discovery and affirmation of the True Name of the Source which moves her to create, the preeminent inspiration behind her works. In the Ode to the Father exhibit the paintings will be presented as part of a prayer with the same title, her thanksgiving prayer to God, the Almighty, the Prime Mover and Ultimate Muse of her art.
“Art is my answer to that need in my soul to reproduce how I see things with my heart’s eye… the need to hold something raw and use it to express how the wonderful things in God’s good earth move me. Art is my praise to God.” - Maria Pureza Escaño
The pieces in the collection are experimentations of Escaño’s varying styles in realism, impressionism and surrealism and were executed in oil, acrylic and watercolor.
Designed as a traveling exposition, The Ode to the Father Exhibition hopes to reach a wider audience by visiting different locations in the country and abroad for the whole of 2010.
In 2005, in a garden at her hometown, Maria Pureza Escaño penned a poem which she titled Ode to the Father. In this poem, she talks to God of the comparison between the old life and the new and her gratefulness to Him for bringing about the change. She spoke to Him of the might of His Power, His Beauty and His Love which brought her healing from memories. Written in free verse, comprised only of simple words, the poem is a prayer of deep affirmation, of humble acquiescence and joyful acceptance of the truth of God’s love. It was God’s love as she was experiencing it. It was God’s presence which brings the beauty in everything around her and consequently, empowers her to be creative.
This poem serves as the skeleton of The Ode to the Father exposition with each verse being represented by an artwork. This poem has now been made into a song by Jason Asistores, one of the composers of the Makopa Band and pianist of the Praise Ministry of the Bukas-Loob sa Diyos Foundation, who gave it a simple melody which reflects the raw and candid spirit in which it was written. Nika Espinosa, a full-time teacher and vocalist of the Makopa Band, sang the song for recording. Her sweet yet powerful voice brought the soul of the song to
As Ode to the Father is essentially a praise and thanksgiving exhibit, all paintings and sales of prints will go to
The Scholarship of Hope
of the Bukas-Loob sa Diyos Foundation , a charity for the "poorest of the poor" entrusted by
the Archbishop Angel Lagdameo to the Bukas-Loob sa Diyos Foundation.
The Scholarship of Hope is Bukas-Loob sa Diyos Covenant Communityâs response to its spiritual director Archbishop Lagdameoâs encouragement to offer educational scholarship from elementary, highschool and college level to the children of the "poorest of the poor." In his call, the Archbishop said ,"... I would like every Full-Term District, Full-Fledged District and District in Process to include⦠the offering of Scholarship to the âpoorest of the poorâ students (not necessarily only the intelligent). The BLD everywhere, as individuals or communities must help alleviate poverty through works of charity."
The Scholarship of Hope will not be an academic scholarship program as normally defined and understood. Rather, it is intended to provide a lifeline for public school children in the primary level.
Unlike other scholarship programs, the only qualification of the beneficiaries, besides being poor, is the desire to get an education. There will be no minimum IQ or grade level required.
To serve as a pilot, the scholarship program will be launched in selected BLD GK villages in chosen elementary schools of BLD Aurora under the AFP PNP District.
Since tuition is given free in public elementary schools, the BLD SOH will offer school supplies, basic necessities such as slippers, umbrellas and raincoat, nutritional food for school children This program will be launched in time for the opening of the school year in June 2010.
The participating elementary schools will be selected by BLD GK for the BLD GK villages and by the AFP PNP District for BLD Aurora.

The OTF Travelling Exposition is an event geared towards giving glory and thanks to God through musisc, art and dance and through aiding the cause of its beneficiaries.
Ultimately, Ode to the Father is just a simple prayer by the artist and the people who works with her to bring this prayer to God and to share the prayer with you. Their hope is that the prayer be also your own as you join them in giving praise and thanksgiving to the Almighty through this humble offering of love, the Ode to the Father Traveling Exposition.
